“Timber!" A fallen power pole at the Cannon County’s baseball fields put county Commissioners in somewhat of a dilemma.

"We need to replace a power pole at the baseball field. It fell Halloween night," said Commission Chairman Mark Barker.
County Executive Mike Gannon said the light poles on the Little League baseball field date back to 1975 or 1976, which means they are 38 to 39 years old. The CCHS field is second oldest with poles something like 25 years old.

"At the time, we had a state recreation grant and the county had to put in only $1,500," Gannon said.
Now the price of replacement poles has risen from $1,000 to $1,500 each, Gannon said.

Gannon said there are 28 polls at the baseball field with a total of 30 in the area. There are six more at the horse arena. "That brings the total to 42," Gannon said.

Replacing all the poles would cost the county from $42,000 to $63,000 not counting labor.

"Middle Tennessee Electric has gone out of its way to assist us," Gannon said.
"It's time we replace them," Chairman Barker said, suggesting that Orlando Jordan, a MTEMC sub-contractor, be brought in to inspect the poles. "It might be three poles. It might be all 42."

It is off-season and a good time to replace the poles, Barker said.
