LETTER: Thank You Cannon County

LETTER TO THE EDITOR

“A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself.” - Joseph Campbell.

Saturday (May 28) prior to and after the Annual Memorial Day Parade of horses bound for the campground on Short Mountain, the local American Legion Post #279, along with the Auxiliary unit, held a roadblock handing out poppies and American Flag decals.

Cannon County motorists and pedestrians gave their donations to help fund the local Legion and promote their many causes to the country and veterans and the youth of our county. The American Legion is the biggest organization of former and current military personnel of its kind in the world.

During our annual roadblock the Legionnaires were selling American flags and service flags depicting the different branches of the service including POW/MIA flags. We set up on the Funeral Home and First Baptist parking lot under a tent during the hours of 0800 to 1300 hrs (8 am to 1 pm). We consider this fundraiser as a complete success and we thank you all for it.

Even if you did not donate any money you gave us a lot of encouragement and smiles. The men and women of the local Post want to say “Thank you Cannon County” for your help.
