Letter: Straight talk needed

To the Editor:

In the Middle Tennessee Electric Membership Corporation(MTEMC) October Magazine on page 16, we are told that our rates will not be increased by MTEMC.  We are also told that MTEMC will allow a rate increase pass-through by the TVA.  So MTEMC blames the customer's higher bills on the TVA, and the TVA blames our higher bills on:

 1) "a decline in demand," (mild temperatures/poor economy)  AND  2) "increasing costs," (higher pay and bonuses for TVA employees & Obama shutting down new coal plants, driving up the cost of coal).

Fellow MTEMC members, we deserve straight talk from those in charge.  They are saying that we(MTEMC) aren't going to make you pay more but our big brother(TVA) is.  MTEMC should tell the TVA to cut their bonuses that add up to millions of dollars before they increase our rates.  If American households have to cut back their expenses, then the TVA, MTEMC, and governments should have to cut their costs too before raising our electric rates and taxes.
