Let's get moving

"Last year we had the most successful Walk Across Tennessee (W.A.T.) program we've ever had in Cannon County. Partnering with the Health Department, there were 36 W.A.T. teams and 180 participants, logging 17,077.5 miles," exclaimed Carla Bush University of Tennessee Family and Consumer Sciences Extension Agent. Evaluations revealed that this free program motivated people to get moving and other results were that they spent more time with their family and less time watching television.

Get moving with friends or your family by participating in Walk Across Tennessee, which is an five-week program that will spark some friendly competition in Cannon County. Teams of five will compete to see who can log the most miles walking in their community. Teams will keep track of their miles, which will be posted on the UT Extension, Cannon County website: extension.tennessee.edu/cannon

"Not only does regular exercise help relieve stress and anxiety, physically active people out live inactive people. Participating in Walk Across Tennessee is not only a great way to get involved with our community it's a healthy habit," Carla Bush stated.

The first week to log miles begins Sunday, April 6, with the finale being held in conjunction with the Cannon Ball 5K on Saturday, May 17 in Woodbury. To participate in Walk Across Tennessee, first get a team together. Choose a team captain and name your team.
