Lance Cpl. Justin Kyle Lewter, age 20, of Camp Pendleton California died from injuries sustained from an automobile accident. He was a veteran of the Iraq War and was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Pendleton.

He enlisted in the Marine Corps Oct. 29, 2007 and deployed in September 2008 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Lewter's personal service awards include the National Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and Sea Service Deployment Ribbon. He was a native of Murfreesboro and a 2007 graduate of Holloway High School.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel, with burial to follow in Evergreen Cemetery.

He is survived by his mother, Theresa Cox Lewter and her longtime friend, David McArthur of Murfreesboro; father, Jimmy Lewter and his wife, Tonia Lewter of Auburntown; sisters, Jennifer Swayze and her husband Jeremy Swayze of Murfreesboro, and Amanda Lewter of Auburntown; brothers, Tommy George of Pulaski, and Kenny Lewter of Auburntown; grandmother, Joy Cox of Murfreesboro; and nieces and nephews, Lauren, Nolen, Caden, and Colbie.
