Cannon County's softball team experienced a power surge in its 9-4 win against Jackson County at Cannon County High School Friday (April 8).

The Lionettes' lineup delivered two doubles, a triple and a home run as part of an 11-hit attack that overwhelmed Jackson County.

Senior Shelby Jordan supplied the brunt of the power, going 4-for-4 with a two-run home run, a double, two RBI and two runs scored.

"It felt great to finally hit a home run again," Jordan said. "I didn't hit one last year and to get that first one this year makes you feel like you are getting back in the swing and hitting like you are capable. I've been hitting well but it was great to get that home run. The biggest thing is that we are playing better and trying to find ways to win games."

The Lionettes (6-5) also had a strong performance from Lindsey Reed, who was 3-for-4 with a triple, two RBI and two runs scored. Brianna Nichols (2-for-4) also continued to perform well from her leadoff spot in the order.

Emily Sissom pitched the complete game to notch the win on the mound.

The Lionettes went on top 2-1 in the second and never looked back.

Upperman 4, CCHS 3

Cannon County put together one of its best games of the season before falling to District 8-AA rival Upperman. The game was scoreless through five innings as Emily Sissom was dynamic on the mound and the defense was solid; however, the Bees broke through for three unearned runs.

The determined Lionettes (6-7, 0-4) showed fight and battled back to tie the game, 3-3, in the top of the seventh, but Upperman plated a run in the bottom of the frame to avoid the upset.

"This was one of the best games we have played in the two years I have been at Cannon County," Head Coach Matt Cagle said. "We had a crucial error cost us two runs in the sixth, as well as the winning run in the seventh, but I'm proud of the effort and the progress we are making as a team."

Smith Co. 14, CCHS 0

Smith County exploded for 12 runs in the third and rolled to a 14-0 win against the Lionettes. Lindsey Reed had Cannon County's only hit.
