Jones named UT Cannon County Extension Office Family Consumer Sciences agent

Kristen Jones replaces Shavon Ward as the Cannon County Extension agent with responsibilities for Family and Consumer Sciences programs. Mrs. Ward which was hired in 2015, was driving from Springhill each day and decided to seek employment closer to her home. Bruce Steelman, County Director with the UT Cannon County Extension Service is excited to have Mrs. Jones as part of the Cannon County Extension Staff. Kristen is a native of Pulaski, TN.

She is a graduate of Martin Methodist College with a Bachelor of Science in Human Services and of UT Martin with a Master of Science in Family and Consumer Sciences. She has previous extension experience as well. Kristen was a TNCEP (Tennessee Nutrition and Consumer Education Program) program assistant with UT-TSU Extension in Giles County for two years before relocating to Cannon County when she married her husband, Eddie Jones, in December 2016. Steelman added while I was reviewing her references, the County Director in Giles County provided positive feedback and remarked that she would be a tremendous asset to the County. While in Giles County, she implemented programs such Cooking Matters, Eat Smart During Pregnancy, Eat Smart: Get Your Family to the Table and Tasty Days.

UT Extension programs address everyday problems that families face and provide help through research-based education. Kristen is excited to work with Cannon County families and is committed to Cannon County with programs emphasizing ways to make wise decisions related to their health, nutrition, family, home youth development and lifestyle decisions. Building individual and family life skills to make positive impacts in our community is the mission of Tennessee Extension Family and Consumer Sciences programs.

County Director extends a sincere appreciation to the Interview Committee consisting of Glen Steakley, Mark Barker, Mike Gannon, Kay Currie, Jim Steward, Jamie Harris and Bonnie Hinds in the interview and selection of Kristen Pratt Jones among three candidates which applied for the position. The Extension Agriculture Committee which consists of Glenn Steakley, Richie Hunter, Karen Ashford, Charlie Bowman, Eva Woodlee, Sandra Vickers and Fred Adams met to formalize the position and welcome Mrs. Jones to the UT Cannon County Extension Staff. The full staff is composed of County Director Bruce Steelman, 4-H Youth Development Sarah Ferrell, Kristen Jones FCS/4-H Youth Development and Administration Assistant Kim Smithson.
