Johnson Gets 16 Years Probation, $20K In Fines



Edward A. Johnson pled guilty to two counts of manufacture of marijuana and received a total suspended sentence of 16 years in the Tennessee Department of Corrections in Cannon County Circuit Court Thursday (Sept. 1).

He was placed on state probation for 16 years and fined $10,000 on both counts. He was also ordered to pay the court costs on both convictions.

Johnson's marijuana-growing arrests occurred on June 20, 2009 and June 11, 2011. He was sentenced as a 35 percent multiple offender and was also ordered to forfeit any confiscated property with the exception of a tractor.

In other cases heard Thursday:

• Jeremy Dean Sissom pled guilty to possession of a handgun by a convicted felon. Sissom was arrested on Feb. 12, 2011 after he was found to be a passenger in a vehicle in which a .38 calibre revolver was found. He received a 2 year partially suspended sentence, was ordered to serve 30 days in the Cannon County Jail, and was placed on state probation for two years. He was also ordered to pay court costs.

• Jeremy Miller pled guilty to casual exchange of a Schedule III controlled substance. He received a suspended sentence of 11 months, 29 days and was placed on probation for an equal amount of time. He was also fined $750 and assessed court costs.

• Jerry Dean Barrett was sentenced on 2 counts of promotion of methamphetamine manufacture and 1 count of domestic assault. The offenses occurred in February of this year and Barrett pled guilty in July. He received two 3 year suspended sentences in the state penitentiary as a standard Range 1, 30 percent offender on the meth-making convictions and was placed on state supervised probation for an equal amount of time. He was also fined $2,000 and assessed court costs on both counts.

Barrett received a suspended sentence of 11 months, 29 days on the domestic assault conviction and was placed on probation for 11 months, 29 days. That probation period will run consecutive to those of the meth convictions. He was also assessed court costs. Barrett was released on time serviced.

• Joe Don Fann was ordered to pay $220 in restitution following his pretrial diversion guilty plea to the charge of livestock at large.
