Joe Wimberly, 75, died at his home on Thursday, December 9, 2010, following an extended illness.

He was a current member of the Cannon County Commission, representing the Fourth District, and was retired from the State of Tennessee as a heavy equipment operator. He also worked for Litter Control of Cannon County.

A native of Cannon County and resident of Woodbury, he attended the West High Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Pearl Mathis and Clyde Wimberly, and a brother, Paul Wimberly.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Baunita Thompson Wimberly; a daughter, Sandy Alexander of Woodbury; son, Randy (Terri) Wimberly of Readyville; grandson, Dan Wimberly of Readyville; brothers, Darce (Bernice) Wimberly, James Wimberly and Glen (Rhonda) Wimberly, all of Woodbury; sisters, Mattie Lee Gannon and Mildren Fann, both of Woodbury, and Ruth Lefevers of Murfreesboro.

Visitation will be Saturday, Dec. 11 from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. at Woodbury Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be in the Chapel of Woodbury Funeral Home on Sunday, Dec. 12 at 3 p.m. with Bro. Herb Alsup and Bro. Mance Davis officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Dewayne Gilley, Jimmy Simpson, Mike Anderson, Kirk Todd, Jeremy Morris and Jason Morris.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, Diabetes Association and Cannon County Walking Horse Association.
