Jim Gibbs Seeks Second Term As Constable
Jim Gibbs was elected as constable in District 1 of Cannon County Tennessee in 2006 and has actively worked toward improving the education and training of constables throughout Tennessee and creating a working relationship with the Cannon County Sheriff, the Woodbury Police and the 911 call center.

As a professional law enforcement educator and trainer Jim Gibbs brings nearly 44 years of law enforcement experience and education to the office.

Jim graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno with a Bachelor of Arts degree in criminal justice and attended an additional two years of undergraduate work at Weber State College in Ogden Utah majoring in law enforcement. He participated in first year of graduate studies at the University of Nevada pursuing a master’s degree in public administration.

Jim graduated valedictorian from the Reno Nevada Police Academy and with honors from the Peace Officers’ Standards and Training Instructors’ School.

In addition to the numerous law enforcement certifications earned over the years, Jim Gibbs has completed the Custom Protection Officer Training program for one the world’s largest security companies. He also earned their Custom Protection Officer Instructor Certification and completed the extensive Advanced Management Skills Training Program.

Jim Gibbs is also a Certified Paralegal. He graduated from the Professional Career Development Institute with a specialty in civil litigation, real estate and criminal law. Jim served a college internship as a legal assistant to the city attorney for Reno Nevada, and as a law clerk for city attorney for Logan Utah and has been commended for prosecuting a criminal case as a police officer in Wyoming when the city attorney fell ill and was unable to attend the trial. Jim has authored courses on contract law, regulatory rules & procedures and criminal law.

His diversified experiences include professional and managerial assignments in law enforcement, law enforcement and real estate education, security management and security education. Exceptionally relevant experiences include: chief of security of a major hotel and casino, police photographer, corrections officer, undercover vice and narcotics investigation, police instructor and firearms training officer.  While in charge of training at the Nashville office of a major security company, Jim trained the Metro-Nashville Court security officers.

Jim owns the Career Institute which is recognized by the State of Tennessee and provides real estate education and security officer education to meet the requirements of the Tennessee Department of Commerce. Career Institute also offers law enforcement continuing education worldwide. Jim Gibbs is certified by the State of Tennessee to teach firearms, baton, Taser and mace classes to security law enforcement officers.

Jim has been appointed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation to manage the education of Tennessee Constables offered through the FBI Virtual Academy. He is a member of the International Law Enforcement Educators and Trainers Association which is an organization by, for and about Instructors and training for the criminal justice professions.

Jim is certified with both the American Red Cross and the American Safety and Health Institute to teach first aid, CPR and use of the AED life saving device. Jim is also an Instructor Trainer for the American Safety and Health Institute.

In addition to the International Law Enforcement Educators and Trainers Association, Jim is a member of the Tennessee Sheriff's Association, Tennessee Tactical Officers Association, Tennessee Constable Council, Tennessee Constable Association, and the National Association of Law Enforcement Officers.

In seeking reelection, Jim promises to continue to work toward making the office of constable a respectable position, cooperating with other law enforcement agencies, and to expand the Neighbor Hood Watch program throughout Cannon County.

As a certified trainer Constable Gibbs would like to assist in providing training to Cannon County firefighters in Arson Investigation for First Responders, the required Vanessa Kay Free Emergency Vehicle Operation, the Public Safety Officers' Benefits Program, and training first responders in investigating and handling unexpected child death as required by Tennessee.

I am proud of to be a constable and the accomplishments we have achieved during the past few years,” said Gibbs. “I believe that my law enforcement background and four years experience as Constable has helped us tremendously during my first term.

It will also be the goal of Constable Gibbs to see that the families of any person in Cannon County that has been diagnosed with any heart condition have CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care instruction to care for their loved ones while waiting for first responders in the time of need.
