JENNIE MAE ADAMS, age 94, died on February 7, 2010. She was born in Jackson, Tennessee to the late Adolphus Birge and Dora Galloway Mitchell, who later moved to LaVergne. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr Carl Adams who died in 1994, and her brothers, A.B. and John G. Mitchell, Sr.

Upon her graduation from Middle Tennessee Teachers College, she taught English and later became a Home Demonstration Agent in Woodbury. After moving to Murfreesboro in 1947, she devoted her life to being a loving homemaker for her husband and six children.

She is survived by her children, Carl, Jr. of Nashville, Fred of Readyville, Andy and Robert of Murfreesboro, A.B. of Seattle, Washington, and Joanne Coggin also of Murfreesboro. She was also blessed with 17 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.

She attended East Main Church of Christ for over 40 years and was a member of North Boulevard Church of Christ at the time of her death.

As an active and loving wife she supported her husband in his medical career and in the formation of National HealthCare Corporation in 1971.

Together they established The Foundation for Geriatric Education (TFGE), and the National Health Foundation (NHF), as well as the Adams Chair of Excellence in Health Care at MTSU.

Her Christian values and beliefs were constantly demonstrated by her compassion, generosity, friendship, and civic responsiveness.

Visitation will be from 4:00pm until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. A celebration of her life will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at North Boulevard Church of Christ, 1112 North Rutherford Boulevard. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
