Jan. 19: American Legion Post #279 Meeting

American Legion Post No. 279 will hold its regular meeting on Thursday, January 19, 2012, at the Senior Citizens Center. We will serve dinner at 5:45 p.m. and our meeting starts at 6:30 p.m.

A SPECIAL PROGRAM - The reflections in history of our Nation's flags, "OPERATION PATRIOTISM", will be presented by the Officers and NCOs of the 118th AirLift Wing of the Tennessee Air National Guard.

Operation Patriotism is a patriotic and moving ceremony about the history of the American Flag and the flags preceding it. THE QUEEN ANNE FLAG waved over the thirteen American Colonies from 1707 till the Revolution.

THE GRAND UNION FLAG was raised over George Washington's headquarters outside Boston on January 1st 1776.

OLD GLORY was the first official flag of the new nation, the United States of America.  It was created by a resolution of the Continental Congress in Philadelphia.

THE STAR SPANGLED BANNER waved over Fort McHenry when it was bombarded on the 13th and 14th of September 1814, and it inspired Francis Scott Key to write our National Anthem.

THE FLAG OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, today has thirteen stripes (seven red and six white) and fifty white stars on a blue field (five rows of six and four rows of five).
