Jan. 14: Core Project Chicago Performs At The Arts Center

On January 14th, Core Project Chicago (CPC) features the media and dance performance works of Artistic Director Erin Rehberg; Executive Director Megan Beseth; frequent collaborator Kim Neal Nofsinger; and musical collaboration by Spencer Lambright and Maya Stone.

The evening features CPC’s Mother Tongues (2009) performed by Megan Beseth, Justin Bourdet, Shawn Cornelius (Chattanooga, TN), Carrie Gant, Megan Hall, Tiffany Philpot and Ashley Strickland. Mother Tongues is a multi-media, contemporary dance work exploring the kinetic genetics of mother-offspring relationships and their branches along the family tree.  Called “Beautiful, tender, compelling!” by Wesley Brainard, the work features original movement, sound and video partnered with the collective’s artists’ exploration of Mom through interviews and popular culture, the fluid and powerful work illuminates the physicality of family.

The evening also includes Transitions (2011) featuring performances by Cooperandi and CPC dancers. Cooperandi is a collaboration between Lambright on electronics and sound design and Stone on bassoon. Transitions includes the Bach G Major Cello Suite played on bassoon and re-contextualized against a backdrop of musique concrète composed and performed by Lambright. Improvisational movement by CPC symbolizes the role of transitions in life, mood, bodily rhythm and music. Additional guest work includes excerpts from Nofsinger’s Exode (2010) and the world premiere of Trifecta a new work by Rehberg featuring Bourdet (Murfreesboro, TN), Gant (Nashville, TN), Hall, Philpot and Strickland (Lebanon, TN).

Core Project Chicago is a movement based inter-disciplinary arts collective pushing the boundaries of storytelling in Chicago. With a mission to empower communities through arts performance and education, the collaborative is committed to the exploration of the human journey through movement, music, video and text in live performance.
