James Tassey

Mr. James Tassey, 78, of Hamburg, AR died Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at the Pinewood Health andRehabilitation Center in Crossett, AR.  

Mr. Tassey was a native of Woodbury, Tennessee and a resident of Hamburg, AR since 1967.  He served in the Tennessee National Guard.  He worked at Superior Garment Factory for many years having retired in 2001 and he worked at home as a mechanic on sewing machines, Volkswagens and lawnmowers.  He was a member of the Gardner Baptist Churchand he was an avid gardener.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Alex & Ophelia Wright Tassey and a sister, Francis Tassey Ward.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Rose Ellingburg Tassey of Hamburg, AR; two daughters, Haley Tassey Chavis and husband, Timmy, of Hamburg, AR and Amy Riles and husband, Steven, of Crossett, AR; two sisters, Fay Tassey and Janie Tassey both of Readyville, TN; six grandchildren, Megan Battaglia, Justin Patterson, Tyler Riles, Courtney Riles, Carson Chavis & Callie Chavis; four great-grandchildren, Bryson, Thomas, Katie & Bridget.

Funeral services are 10 a.m., Thursday, July 25, 2013 at Gardner Baptist Church with Rev. Keith Martin and Rev. Eugene Howie officiating.  Burial will be in the Trafalgar Cemetery.  Pallbearers are Royce Bowden, Justin Patterson, Tyler Riles, Jim Ellingburg, Luther Richardson, Dennis Byrd, Sammy Johnson and Ted Rial.  Honorary pallbearers are the members of the Adult II Sunday School Class of Gardner Baptist Church.  Memorials may be made to the Gardner Baptist Church Building Fund, PO Box 311, Hamburg, AR 71646 or the Trafalgar Cemetery Association, c/o Mr. Ben Lawrence, 859 Ashley 105 Road, Montrose, AR 71658 or to the Alzheimer’s Arkansas Association, 201 Markham Center Drive, Little Rock, AR 72205.  Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home of Hamburg.
