Hal Larimer

James Harrison Larimer affectionately known as Hal passed away peacefully June 16, 2014 at the age of 94 with his wife by his side. To many others he was known simply as Pa. Pa is such a small word but he gave it more meaning than those two letters can hold. His story began in Erwin, Tennessee where he was born March 7, 1920 to his parents Harry and Coy Croley Larimer. It was his skill as a bass fiddle player that brought him to Woodbury. He met and married his first wife Iris Womack and had a son, Joe Evans Larimer. They both preceded him in death. After trying a career in the grocery business, Hal bought his way into the funeral business with Woodbury Funeral Home. This is where he made a memorable legacy in this world. He may have carried you or someone you know home from the hospital when they were born. He may have transported some of you by ambulance to a hospital because ambulance driving was part of his service. Many of you have had the privilege of having his loving, comforting ways to help you send your loved ones to their final resting place. This was only one of Hal's many gifts to this world. He will be greatly missed by all those who were lucky enough to call him husband, father, son, brother, grandfather or friend.

Hal was also preceded in death by siblings; Ed Larimer, Margaret Larimer, E. B. Kemp and Faye Bunch. He is survived by his wife Lois Gilley Larimer. Two granddaughters; Tracie (Orland) Wolford of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida and Missie Brown of Woodbury. Three great grandchildren; Ivy Womack and Joe Womack of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Olivia Wolford of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. Two brothers; Louie Larimer of Makakalo Beach, Hawaii and Wayne Larimer of Mobile, Alabama. Two stepsons; Kenny (Debbie) Gilley and Bob Gilley of Woodbury, Tennessee; Step-Grandchildren, Korie Gilley Aycock, John Gilley, Rebecca Gilley Alexander, Katie Gilley, Emily Gilley and Nicole Hogg; Step Great Grandchildren, Hunter, Luke, Hayden, Delaney, Mason, Camden and Colt.

A member of the Woodbury Church of Christ and the Woodbury Lions Club.

Funeral services will be held in the Chapel of Woodbury Funeral Home at 2 pm Thursday with Bro. Herb Alsup and Bro. Billy Smith officiating.  Interment will follow in the Riverside Gardens. Visitation with the family will be Wednesday from 2 pm - 8 pm. For those wishing to do so, donations may be made to Riverside Gardens Cemetery or Short Mtn. Bible Camp %Woodbury Funeral Home, 504 W. Main St., Woodbury, TN.  37190. 615-563-2311.
