Some of the defendants in Cannon County Circuit Court Monday (April 30) on probation violation charges had their probation revoked and were ordered to serve jail sentences by Judge Robert Corlew.

• Shelia Rains pled guilty to Violation of Probation. She was ordered to serve the balance of her sentence for Manufacture of Methamphetamine and was given credit for time served. While on probation she failed drug screens, testing positive for methamphetamine, crack cocaine and marijuana. Rains told the court, “I can’t help myself. I need treatment. I’m a good person, I just make bad decisions."

• Ronnie Bedwell, Jr. pled guilty to Violation of Probation. He was ordered to serve the balance of his sentence for Aggravated Assault. Bedwell violated probation when he stopped reporting to his probation officer. He told the court he did so because an aunt was ill and he wanted to visit her. He said once he realized he would be charged for VOP he didn’t see any sense in continuing to report.

• Cory Chapman pled guilty to Violation of Probation. He was on state probation for Aggravated Burglary and Auto Burglary. He had failed to report to his probation officer as director. He was ordered to serve his entire sentence.

• Brady Cunningham had his motion for a furlough denied by Judge Corlew. He is serving a two-year sentence for TennCare Fraud and is due to be released in August. He also has new charges pending in DeKalb County. Cunningham was seeking a medical furlough.

• Cynthia Taylor pled guilty to Violation of Probation. She violated her probation by moving to a new residence with the permission of her probation officer. Taylor testified she moved because it was winter and there was no heat or hot water where she was living. Judge Corlew reinstated her probation to its original time period.

• Jerry Barrett, Sr. was granted his motion for contact with his son, Jerry Barrett, Jr. He had been ordered to not have any contact with his son as part of a condition for probation following his conviction for domestic assault.
