Ivy Bluff focus of Historical Society session



The Cannon County Historical Society will meet Tuesday, March 12 at 6:30 p.m. at the Cannon County Senior Center at 609 Lehman Street in the small dining room area. You will enter under the awning.

Our featured speaker will be Raymond Cooper, a member of Cannon County Historical Society and a life-long resident of the Ivy Bluff community.

Raymond and his wife, Pat live on their “Century Farm.” He is retired and actively engaged in farming, a recognized, progressive and highly noted for his cattle grazing practices.

His subject will be “Early Settlement of Ivy Bluff” and “Why the Barrens were settled last.” He will also deal with the early settlers who stayed with emphasis on the Banks, Duke and other first settlers.

He will talk about the early schools, churches, cemeteries, early businesses, industries and a “legal distillery.” He will include the “War Between the States” activities in the area.

This will be a very interesting and informative presentation!

We will meet at 6:30 p.m. for snacks and refreshments. Please bring your favorites and enjoy the fellowship. The program begins at 7:00 p.m.
