The Cannon County Industrial Development Board agreed Tuesday night to pay rent on a building in Auburntown for a local company looking to start a manufacturing facility here.
The rental price on the building, the former location of Jamison Industries, is $2,600 per month.
The IDB will make a conditional offer to Cobb Home Innovations to rent the building for one year. Consideration of extending that time would be made at the end of that period.
Cobb Home Innovations plans on manufacturing lighted décor tiles for use in homes and businesses. The tiles and the technology used in making them are unique in that they allow for tiles to be placed in areas such as bathrooms and kitchens where they normally can’t be due to proximity of electricity.
The company hopes to employ up to 25 people initially with expansion plans calling for as many as 200 employees in 3-5 years.
The Cobbs are in the processing of working with the state government and private investors to arrange for startup money for the operation. The owners, Hugh and Joyce Cobb, live in Cannon County and have expressed a profound interest in manufacturing their tiles and any future products based on the technology locally.
They are scheduled to make a presentation about the company’s plans and the product to the Cannon County Commission when it meets Saturday, Oct. 15.
