For the second time this season, the Woodland Warriors and Lady Warriors swept another grammar school basketball title. In November, both teams won the County tournament at Cannon County High School. Last week, both teams won the annual B Team Tournament title at Auburn.

"To win both the county tournament and the B Team Tournament has been so exciting," Woodland boys head coach Tracy Hale said. "At the beginning of the season, we talked to the boys about the end results that we wanted. Our boys worked hard and most importantly, they worked together as a team. They were so determined to bring a championship trophy back to Woodland. Each player played a role in bringing home both of those trophies. It was a fun and satisfying season. I am so proud of each of them."

The Lady Warriors won the title with a new head coach as Suzette Sissom stepped down from the position after the regular season. Jordan Hollis took over the program, but she missed last week's tournament because of a schedule conflict, so Michael Bush and Mark Vance handled the coaching duties for Woodland during the B Team Tournament.

All the six county teams were without some of their more experienced players for this tournament, which has been held at Auburn for over 30 years, because the players who played on the Cannon County Middle Grade team were ineligible for this event.

However, at this tournament, each of the county's grammar school players stepped into new roles, and they got their moment in the sun. The action was entertaining and fun at one of the coolest home gyms I had ever been to in Auburntown. It felt like the classic sports movie Hoosiers was filmed at this location.

By the way, sorry I lied in previous columns about me watching a game from all six gyms during my time here at the Cannon Courier. Honestly, I had never been to Auburn's gym until last week. I hope you the readers can forgive me, I will do a better job of remembering things next time.

Between all the tournaments, the grammar school regular season, and the recently completed CCMG first ever season, the 2016-17 local grammar school basketball is in the books. I want to thank all the players, coaches and parents for their time during the season, and the various school officials for welcoming me with open arms and making sure I had everything I needed, so these student-athletes could get in the Courier.

However, I admit there were mistakes with a couple of things, and I am truly sorry for them. I promise to do better next season.
