Maleah Scott (10) ended her Lionette career with a 14-point, 5-rebound performance in a District 8-AA Tournament loss to DeKalb County.

The Cannon County Lionettes came into their second round game with the unlucky number 13 as the total wins they had in the season.

The DeKalb County Lady Tigers made sure Cannon didn't get lucky Friday night in the showdown with the Lionettes at the Hooper Eblen Center at Tennessee Tech as the game went down to the wire with DeKalb getting a key steal with four seconds left and protecting a one point lead.

DeKalb, playing without two starters and one key player off the bench, kept the lanes crowded trying to keep lone Lionette senior Maleah Scott from doing too much damage.

Scott got into foul trouble in the third quartter and the Lionettes couldn't keep DeKalb from driving in the lane and allowed several easy shots.

Cannon was able to tie the game at 37 late in the fourth and briefly took the lead. DeKalb scored off of two free throw opportunities including one with four seconds left. The Lionettes missed the last second shot sending DeKalb to the semifinals with a 41-39 win.

Scott scored 14 points in her high school finale. Lionettes ended the season with a 13-13 record.

• The Cannon County Lions boys basketball season is over after losing to the Smith County Owls in the first round of the District 8-AA basketball tournament at Tennessee Tech University 56-40 on Wednesday.

The Lions never led at any point in the game and trailed only by three at the end of the first quarter 12-9.

Smith County went on a 8-0 run to start the second quarter coasting the rest of the way. Cannon fought back to trail by 12 in the third but missed opportunities off of Smith County turnovers would prove costly for the Lions in their attempt to make a final run at the Owls.

Trey Fann led the Lions in the loss as he scored 12 points in his final game for Cannon. Lane Willis fouled out in his final appearance for the team and scored 4 points.

Cannon's final record for the season is 5-21
