Honoring The Fallen On Memorial Day

U.S. CONGRESSMAN DIANE BLACK

Washington, D.C. (Friday, May 27, 2011) — Today, U.S. Representative Diane Black (R-TN), released the following Memorial Day statement:

“As we prepare to celebrate the Memorial Day holiday, I’d like to take a moment for all of us to reflect upon the great sacrifices of our men and women in uniform.

“From the American Revolution through today’s wars against terror in both Afghanistan and Iraq, our nation’s greatness has been defended by millions of brave soldiers who voluntarily answered the call to serve both God and their country.

“For those who gave the ultimate sacrifice to protect the freedoms we enjoy today, there are few words any of us can offer to truly express our gratitude.  To all of the military families who have also sacrificed so much, our nation is truly indebted to you.

“It is often said that freedom isn’t free.  Today, thousands of our brave soldiers are serving in Iraq and Afghanistan and nations around the world.  They put their lives on the line every day, sacrificing time with their families to be out on the front line, defending peace and democracy.

“This weekend as we gather with family and friends, please take a moment to remember our brave men and women in uniform, and reflect upon the many sacrifices they have made to keep America strong and free.

“God bless our soldiers, and God bless America.”
