Homes In Cannon County: Investing And Saving
Is your heating and cooling (electric and gas) bill higher than you like? There is something you can do. Make an investment in your home that benefits your family, your tenant, your neighborhood, the community as a whole.
Middle TN Electric Membership Corporation (MTEMC) provides free (if you make the upgrades) energy evaluations that provide homeowners with a list of improvements that will save utility dollars for the long run. They also offer an incentive of up to $500 towards that work if you spend $1000: effectively a 50% savings on the work.
One of the simplest things to do is have your attic insulated. MTEMC has a list of approved contractors to do the work; these contractors are known for showing up on time and doing the work right. MTEMC double checks the work when it is done.
Many houses in Woodbury, Auburntown and out in the county average around 1100 square feet of heated and cooled space. Attic insulation on a home that size ranges from $400-800 LESS a 50% incentive to the homeowner from MTEMC once the work is complete.
So in addition to MTEMC paying for half of the attic insulation, you save money monthly on your reduced utility bills. Probably enough money in 1 year to pay you back the investment you made. That is money in the bank.
This investment improves the quality of your house, saves you or your tenant money, makes the house more valuable when you go to sell, and extends the life expectancy of your furnace and a/c system because they don’t have to run as much. Your house will likely feel warmer in winter and cooler in summer.
Your house is your biggest investment. Our houses added together comprise the biggest asset of the County: the county is a community of families and homes. Improving your house, improves the community. Investing wisely in your house is a long term benefit for all of us.
