Jane Hood Lester unveiled the new Stones River Historic Marker on the lawn of the Cannon County Courthouse in honor of her friend, Nancy Smith Griner who first suggested the marker. Mrs. Griner is the daughter of Hayden Smith, who once owned The Cannon Courier newspaper, and Lillian Smith.
