Mr. Hargas Vernon Elkins age 69 of McMinnville, TN, died Tuesday, April 03, 2012, at his residence.

He was born May 04, 1942, in Cannon County, TN, was a retired heavy equipment diesel mechanic, and a member of Center Hill Baptist Church. Mr. Elkins was preceded in death by parents Issac Raymond and Virginia Eldora Mitchell Elkins, sisters Wanda Craddock and Gail Lawley, and his brothers Gary, Lane, and Raymond Elkins, Jr.

Survivors include his wife of 34 years Phyllis Marie Melton Elkins, children Brandon Tyler Elkins, Debbie Hale, Mark A. Elkins, Vernon Elkins, Jr., Helen Virginia Stewart, and Tucker Elkins, step-children Crystal Gillette, Sheila Fann, and Todd Bess, sisters Mallie Bryson, Shirley Bryson, and Lyla Dees, a brother Al Elkins, grandchildren, and step-grandchildren Justin Bess, Hunter Bess, Lexi Fann, and Allison Bess.

Funeral service is 1 P.M. Thursday, April 05, 2012, at McMinnville Funeral Home Chapel. Bro. Greg Mitchell will officiate. Interment will follow at Mt. View Cemetery. The Elkins Family will receive friends Wednesday from 4 P.M. until 9 P.M. and again Thursday from 10 A.M. until 1 P.M. at the parlors of McMinnville Funeral Home.
