Got any Civil War artifacts?

Archivists and curators from the Tennessee State Library and Tennessee State Museum are coming to Woodbury on Friday, Jan. 24 to record and digitize Civil War memorabilia for an online exhibit commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Civil War.

Artifacts include original letters, photographs, dia-ries, uniforms or uniform pieces (belt buckles, patches, etc.), weapons, claims filed for damages by the Confederate or Federal army, hand-drawn maps, sketches, military passes or discharges, medical records, pension materials, quilts, flags or banners, button, ribbons or badges, broadsides, newspapers or medical tools.

Area residents are asked to bring those items to the Adams Memorial Library, 212 College St. The event is set for 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 24.

Reservations can be made at www.tn.gov/tsla/cwtn or by calling 615-741-1883.

Items will be scanned or photographed and returned to the owner within an hour. The state will not keep the artifacts.

Contributors will receive free digitization services, copies of the digital images and tips on how to care for and preserve their items.

The statewide project, "Looking Back: The Civil War in Tennessee," is designed to digitize and preserve materials that document Tennessee's extensive Civil War heritage.

The Tennessee State Library and Archives, in cooperation with the Tennessee Civil War Sesquicentennial Commission, may digitize your item(s) so that they can be accessed by the public through TSLA's online digital platform, the Tennessee Virtual Archive (TEVA), or by other methods. Any publications of the photographs will have a credit line naming TSLA as the source of the photograph.
