Briar Jakes fired a 42 and Cannon County’s golf team turned back rival DeKalb County and Monterey to cap its regular season with a 10-5 mark.

The Lions fired a team-total 185, finishing five shots ahead of DeKalb County (190). Monterey shot 235 as a team.
Cannon County was scheduled to begin play in the District 8-A/AA Tournament at White Plains Golf Course in Cookeville Monday (Sept. 8).

“The team has played well overall for the most part,” CCHS boys golf coach Ronny Burks said. “We have some experience and those guys have played with more consistency in the second half of the season so that has helped our cause.”

In addition to Jakes’ solid round to lead the way, teammate William Parker also turned in a strong match. Parker fired a 44, highlighted by a 40-foot birdie putt on the par-3 No. 9.

Hunter Vickers fired a 48 and Josh Ruehlen finished with a 51 to round out the team scoring for the Lions. Only the top four scores count toward the team total in high school golf.

Jacob Nave and Jake Todd each posted a 52 for the Lions. Bradly Vickers finished with a 62 for Cannon County.
