On Sept. 11, Judge Susan Melton presided over Cannon County General Sessions Court. Some of the various cases that appeared on the docket included:

Clayton Adams pled guilty to a slew of charges. In the first case, he received a suspended 30-day sentence after pleading guilty to leaving the scene of a traffic accident. That sentence was suspended upon equal time on probation and payment of court- related costs.

In another case, Adams pled guilty to a misdemeanor vandalism charge. Melton sentenced him to 11 months and 29 days in jail, which was partially suspended upon serving 10 days in jail, equal time on probation, as well as paying restitution and related costs. He also pled guilty to theft over $500 and received a sentence of 11 months and 29 days in jail. That sentence was also partially suspended upon serving 10 days in jail, in addition to the other stipulations.

Adams also pled guilty to one count of possession of a Schedule IV substance, a conviction. For that case, he also received a partially suspended sentence of 11 months and 29 days upon serving 10 days in jail and equal time on probation. In addition, he is required to pay $750 in fines and court costs.

Edwin D. Cantrell pled guilty to third driving under the influence offense and was sentenced to 11 months and 29 days in jail. That was sentence was partially suspended upon serving 45 days in jail,

equal time on probation and payment of $600 in fines and court costs. His license was also revoked for an additional two years.

In another case, Cantrell was sentenced to 11 months 29 days after pleading guilty to driving on a revoked license. That sentence was partially suspended upon serving 17 days in jail, equal time on probation and payment of $50 in fines.

Andrew F. Graves pled guilty to driving without a license. He was sentenced to 30 days in jail. That sentence was suspended upon equal time on probation, and paying a $2 fine and court costs.

Evidence against Andrew L. Hutchens, who has been charged with one count of aggravated burglary, aggravated criminal trespass, vandalism and theft of property, was bound over to a Cannon County grand jury for consideration.

Aaron V. Moon was ordered to serve an original sentence after it was determined he violated the terms of his probation. In other cases, Moon received three sentences of 11 months and 29 days in jail after pleading guilty to one count of perjury, a third offense of driving on a suspended license, and an evading arrest charge.

Lavon L. Nunnery pled guilty to passing a worthless check and was sentenced to 11 months 29 days in jail. That sentence was suspended upon equal time on probation and paying more than $686 in restitution and court costs.

Evidence against William R. Prater concerning charges of underage consumption, huffing inhalants, aggravated burglary, misdemeanor theft, as well as vandalism, were bound over to a Cannon County grand jury for consideration.

Dillon J. Reger pled guilty to stalking and assault. He was sentenced to 11 months and 29 days in jail in both cases, which were suspended upon equal time on probation and payment of court costs.

Randall C. Smotherman pled guilty to unrelated charges of public intoxication. He was sentenced to 30 days in jail in both cases.

Billy Joe Sweeney was sentenced to 11 months 29 days in jail on one count of domestic assault. That sentence was partially suspended upon serving 30 days in jail, equal time on probation, and completion of a domestic violence inventory assessment, a test designed to address underlying factors that contributed to his behavior during the incident.

Warrants were also issued for Leslie Beilfuss, Clifton W. Mankin, Travis P. Pinkerton, Michael Joe Sanders and Jerry G. Smith Jr. for failing to appear in court.
