Gene Lefevers



Gene Lefevers, 85, of Woodbury died January 31, 2011. He was born January 20, 1926 in Cannon County, TN. His parents were the late Samuel Ralston Lefevers and Lillian May (Arnett) Lefevers. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Lefevers; son, Harold Gene Lefevers; brothers, Sammie Lefevers and Hoyte Lefevers; sisters, Annie Northcutt, Lillian Downing, Betty Mason, Ruth Patrick, Vera Woods and Whyte Pelham.

Survivors include his brother, Ray & Janie Lefevers of Woodbury; daughter, Patty Lefevers of Michigan; step-son, Donnie Thayer of Michigan; step-daughter, Marilyn Sepher of California; also by several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was a graduate of the Woodbury Central High School in the Class of 1946 and a member of the First Baptist Church of Woodbury. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during WWII. He was on the attack transport ship U.S.S. Duchess and participated in the battles of Iwo Jima, Okinawa, the liberation of the Phillipines and the occupation of Japan. He was a member of the Veterans and Concerned Citizens for the Veterans of Cannon County and the American Legion Post #279 and was active at the Cannon County Senior Center in years past.

Visitation will be Friday, Feb. 4, 2011 from 5-7 PM at Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011 at 10 AM in the Smith Funeral Home chapel. Dr. Bill Jennings will officiate. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the First Baptist Church, the American Legion Post #279 or the charity of your choice.
