Fresh and off the vine at Farmers Market

After enduring a season like last year, no one would have guessed what the good Lord had in store for us in 2013. Rains have produced floods that many of us will remember for years to come along with soggy conditions in gardens and fields throughout Middle Tennessee. Produce from a couple of the Vendors of the Cannon County Farmers Market were sweep away due to the floods.
While we have experienced a lot of diversity this season, the Market is in full swing with many of your summer favorites. Half Runner green beans and sweet corn are “coming in” along with a good supply of the red gem of South, vine ripened red tomato. These local favorites along with okra, freshly dug potatoes along with a wide array of sweet and hot peppers are plentiful at the Cannon County Farmers Market. Several of the producers have large quantities available for those needing vegetables to preserve. The Cannon County Farmers Market specializes in bringing farm fresh, vine ripen fruits and vegetables from the farm to your dinner table.
For those looking for locally grown farm fresh vegetables, drop by the Cannon County Farmers Market this Saturday, July 27th for a great selection of fruits, vegetables and baked good including; beans (half-runners), cucumbers, eggplant, peppers (Anaheim, bell, banana, Poblano, cayenne, jalapeno), okra, potatoes (Yukon gold bakers, new potatoes and Irish), sweet corn (peaches & cream), squash (zucchini and yellow), tomatoes (red and green), assortment of other squash and an assortment of jams, jellies and baked goods. Irene Hollis and Lindsey Parsley have a great selection of homemade fried pies.
The Cannon County Farmers Market is located at the Arts Center of Cannon County every Saturday beginning at 6:00 A.M. Most Saturdays the market is open until noon or until the farm fresh fruits and vegetables have been sold. Best way to get the best selection is to come early!
