MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -- If anyone knows how to figure out what you're saying while you're not talking, it's a former FBI agent.
Joe Navarro spent 25 years with the Bureau, specializing in counterintelligence, counterterrorism and behavioral assessment, before beginning a second career as an expert on nonverbal communications. He's bringing his 45-plus years of expertise back to MTSU on Tuesday, Oct. 24, to discuss "The Power of Nonverbal Communications" as the fall 2017 speaker of the William M. Bass Legends in Forensic Science Lectureship.
Navarro's free public lecture is set for 6:30 p.m. in MTSU's Student Union Ballroom, Room 250. Co-sponsored by the University's Forensic Institute for Research and Education, the series brings respected forensic-science experts to campus each fall and spring.
Navarro, the best-selling author and co-author of "Dangerous Personalities," "What Every Body is Saying" and "Louder Than Words," last visited MTSU in 2011 as a Bass Lectureship speaker. He lectures at the Harvard Business School, is an international corporate consultant on body language and management practices, and even taught classes on "poker tells" at the World Series of Poker Academy.
On Wednesday, Oct. 25, Navarro will lead a daylong workshop on "Nonverbal Communications in a Forensic Setting," offering students and professionals in multiple fields advice in interviewing, due diligence, depositions and security-related interviews.
The workshop, set for 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Student Union Ballroom, will offer continuing education credits and will be useful for those working in medicine, psychology, law enforcement, national security and other fields.
Navarro's workshop cost is $150 per person, and registration is available at http://www.csimtsu.com. Navarro also will sign copies of his books after both events.
