Father-son duo celebrate 28 years as business partners

Father's Day means different things to different people. To Tim Funderburk and his father Larry, it's a reminder of their 28 years working together as McDonald's owner/operators.

Larry Funderburk began his career with McDonald's in 1988, and Tim joined his father in the venture in 1991. The duo started small, leading only three McDonald's restaurants. The Funderburks' work ethic and ability to operate as a cohesive team allowed them to grow over the years, and the family now owns and operates 21 McDonald's restaurants, including the one in Woodbury.

Throughout the growth and development process, Tim and Larry brought a number of national corporate awards to Middle Tennessee. Larry has received the prestigious Golden Arch Award, which recognizes less than 40 McDonald's owner/operators per year. The award is presented to franchisees who deliver a superior customer experience, give back to their communities, ensure a positive employee experience and are leaders who build trust in the McDonald's brand.

Perhaps even more impressive is the duo's Ronald Award, which recognizes franchisees for their outstanding contributions to McDonald's, their local communities and their guests. Both Tim and Larry have individually won a number of other awards through the company.

"McDonald's has played such an important role in my relationship with my father," says Tim. "Working with anyone, let alone your father, for 28 years is almost unheard of at this point. I feel that the time we've spent together is a testament to the way he raised his children and treats his employees. Everyone is important in his eyes."
