Ernest Howard "Butch" Young



Ernest Howard "Butch" Young, 63, died Tuesday, March 23, 2010, at his home following an extended illness.

A native of White County and Woodbury resident, he began working for the former Good Samaritan Hospital in 1966 then continued his work for Stones River Hospital until 2003 when he became disabled by renal failure.

He was a member of the Leoni Church of Christ. He preached at several small congregations in Cannon County before assuming a part in the leadership at the Leoni congregation where he first served as a deacon then as an elder for more than 20 years before resigning due to his declining health.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Louella Jernigan Young of Woodbury; one son, Keith Foster (Teena) Young of McMinnville; one daughter, Karen Nicole (Ryan) Duggin of Murfreesboro; his mother, Ethel Rich Young who has resided with him for the past several years; two granddaughters, Morgan Faith and Hannah Grace Young; three brothers, James Creed "Bo" Young and Robert Wayne Young of Sparta, Danny Thomas (Debbie) Young of Smithville.

He was preceded in death by one son, Kevin Duane Young and his father, Ernest Haskel Young.

Visitation with the family will be the Smith Funeral Home from 4-8 PM Thursday, March 25, 2010 and on Friday, March 26 from 1-2 PM at the Leoni Church of Christ. Funeral services will be at 2 PM, Friday, March 26 at the Leoni Church of Christ with his son Keith Young, officiating. Burial will be in the Leoni Cemetery.
