Environmental Workshop Planned Sept. 9 At CCHS Greenhouse
PAM HOSKINS
Good news! If you would like to know more about protecting our streams from invasive species and reestablishing native plants to protect streambanks, an introductory workshop will be held Thursday, September 9 at 6:00 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Cannon County High School in Mr. Courtney Nichols greenhouse classroom. Workshop topic will be reestablishing native plants to protect streambanks as well as a project planned for the next two years to create a 50 foot buffer along the East Fork Stones River at Dillon Park. The plantings will be accomplished with help from high school students and community volunteers and will include native grasses, flowers, shrubs, and trees. Over time as those plantings become established, invasive species will be removed. Presenters at the meeting will be Terri Hogan, Ecologist, with the National Park Service/Stones River National Battlefield and students from Cannon County High School. Sponsors for this event include Cannon County Soil Conservation District, Hull-York Lakeland RC&D and Tennessee Department of Agriculture. The public is invited to attend and refreshments will be served.
