Cannon County Election Commissioners will reconsider the dismissal of Stan Dobson as Adminstrator of Elections at their Dec. 10 meeting.

The meeting is set for 5:30 p.m. in the Courthouse.

The reason given for Dobson's termination was "unprofessional conduct" on July 2, 2012.

Dobson was appointed Administrator of Elections in 2009 after the Republican Party assumed control of the Tennessee Legislature in 2008 and replaced several Democratic Party-controlled county election commissions with Republican majorities. Dobson took over for Mary Lynn Bush.

His tenure was marked by controversy during the last year over the pay and hours worked by his assistant, Dorinda Mankin, and an effort by the Election Commission to close polling places at Short Mountain School and Pleasant Ridge.

He also was involved in a recent effort along with Election Commissioner Matt Studd, a Republican, to have Louise Mayo, a fellow Republican member, removed from the Commission.

Jackie Gannon, one of two Democrats along with Sue Patrick on the five-member Commission, made the motion to fire Dobson Monday. Mayo voted along with Gannon and Patrick to remove Dobson. Studd and Commission Chairman Lindburg Dennis voted against, wth the motion passing 3-2.

Nothing personnal with Mr. Dobson, I wish him all the best, but my first thoughts after viewing this article was this has to be a really bad joke. So much controversy and dissension and now we want to revisit the whole ugly situation again?

I understand the change of guard that has taken place but the discord that follows strengthens my utter disgust and objection to the relentless unyielding crusade between the parties for "control".

Surely there are many qualified republicans who are able and willing to do this job with civility and respect to all. This office and the citizens of our county deserve no less.

O PLEASE NOT DOBSON! Ms.Dorinda is doing just fine. He had to be the most rude person I HAVE EVER MET IN A PUBLIC OFFICE. Any time I was down there he was just doing nothing and rude to whoever came in. Thanks to Sue and Jackie for getting him out of there. The election when smooth this year without him in charge. The only thing he was in charge of was taking our money to the bank that our hard earned tax money paid for his salary.

people need to worry MORE about Cannon county and much, much, much LESS about dobson.some people say "good riddance, and dont come back".i'm inclined to agree.like brother Ray said"hit the road jack and dont you come back no more,no more,no more,no more" I believe TOO MUCH TIME has been wasted on TROUBLEMAKERS.but as always opinions vary.(although in this case, opinions seem to agree on keeping dobson as far away as possible from this office).

Who wants Dobson back? No one I know. Cannon County citizens deserves someone better than Dobson. Dorinda Mankin is doing a good job and was doing all the work even when Dobson was there.
Thanks to Jackie Gannon, Sue Patrick and Louise Mayo for doing the right thing and getting Dobson out of there. He was UNPROFESSIONAL and deserved to be fired. Reinstating Dobson would be a tragedy plus an example of dirty politics in their finest.
