Edge facing charges from two incidents

A Smithville man who walked away from one encounter with the law drove his way into another recently, and is now facing charges from both incidents.
Johnathon Z. Edge was charged with DUI, possession of a Schedule II drug and possession of drug paraphernalia on Nov. 10 by Deputy Tonya Holland of the Cannon County Sheriff's Department.

Holland was dispatched to Pea Ridge Rd. following a report of a suspicious vehicle/reckless driver. On her way she observed a vehicle matching the description headed toward Big Hill Road. The vehicle pulled over onto the edge of a driveway.

Upon making contact with the driver, Edge, she asked to see his driver's license, registration and proof of insurance. While Edge was getting the registration out of the glove box, a glass pipe typically used for smoking marijuana fell out of the papers onto Edge's lap. Holland also observed in the back seat a mason jar filled with a clear liquid and a Southern Pride Distillery glass jar filled with what appeared to be moonshine. There was also a partial case of Bud Light cans in the floorboard of the passenger's seat.

Following a series of field sobriety tests, Edge was taken into custody. A search of the vehicle turned up two sets of digital scales, a bag containing a green mossy substance, a small grinder typically used for marijuana, rolling papers and a baggie containing clear crystals which field tested positive for methamphetamine. In addition to the DUI and drug charges, he was also cited for driving on a permit without a licensed driver, open container and violation of the financial responsibility law.

After he was taken into custody, Edge received additional charges stemming from an Oct. 10 incident on Pea Ridge Rd. The warrants obtained by CCSD Sgt. Greg Moore allege Edge left the scene of an accident on foot after wrecking a GMC truck. Edge was identified by a person at the scene. A small bag containing a gel substance was found ejected from the vehicle in a pile of clothing which field tested positive for Ecstasy. Drug paraphernalia was also found among the items near the vehicle.

From that incident Edge was charged with manufacture/delivery/sell of a Schedule I drug, possession of drug paraphernalia and leaving the scene of an accident. Edge appeared in Cannon County General Sessions Court on Nov. 21 and had the charges bound over the the January session of the grand jury. It is anticipated, however, that Edge will reach a plea agreement with the state and present it to Judge David Bragg for consideration in Cannon County Circuit Court on Dec. 7.
