Experience clearly is critical at East Side, which is dishing out payback during the 2011-12 grammar school basketball season.

After struggling through a winless campaign last season East Side continued its upward surge by running away with the Cannon County Cancer Tournament championship following a 45-26 win against West Side in the title game.

Kelli Davis poured in 21 points, Katie Hoskins and Haylee Mooneyham scored 11 each as East Side started fast and never slowed down.

Sydney Elrod led West Side with nine points. Danielle White scored six and Alli Parton tallied four.

Davis set the tone early when she knocked down three straight 3-pointers to spark East Side to a 14-6 first-quarter lead. The Lady Tigers never looked back.

Hoskins connected on both of her field goals in the second quarter and Mooneyham was perfect from the floor as East Side stretched the lead to 22-10 at intermission.

East Side erased any lingering doubt with a sensational third-quarter run that saw Davis convert all four of her field goal attempts. The Lady Tigers were a remarkable 8-of-9 from the field in the third quarter. In addition to Davis' 4-for-4, Hoskins was 2-for-2 and Mooneyham was 2-for-3.

By the time the dust had settled East Side owned a commanding 39-21 advantage.

GIRLS CONSOLATION
WOODBURY 37
SHORT MTN. 26
After falling just seconds short of an appearance in the championship game after a hard-fought rally against West Side came up empty in the semifinals, Woodbury left nothing to chance in the girls consolation game.

Emily Sissom scored 19 points and Jessica Elmy added 11 to lead Woodbury to a 37-26 win against Short Mountain to claim third place. Hannah Haley (4) and Rachel Pate (2) also scored in the winning efford.

Short Mountain's balanced attack was led by Ciarra Riddle and Addie Hale with seven points each. Caitlin Miller added six. Miranda Byford and Cheyenne Byford each scored three.

Elmy came up big in the consolation game. She ignited the Lady Cubs early by scoring all 11 of her points in the first half. Elmy was 5-of-8 from the field and helped provide a 29-8 halftime cushion.

After getting off to a slow shooting start in the first quarter Sissom connected on six of her next seven attempts, including two 3-pointers.
