STATE OF TENNESSEE REPUBLICAN AND DEMOCRATIC PRIMARY

CANNON COUNTY GENERAL

AUGUST 2, 2012

Pursuant to TCA 2-6-103 the Cannon County Election Commission will hold EARLY VOTING in the

Adams Office Building, Tatum Street entrance, telephone (615) 563-5650.

 

DATE AND TIME FOR VOTING

JULY 13TH THROUGH 28TH

13TH, 16TH, 17TH, 18TH, 19TH, 20TH, 23RD, 24TH, 25TH, 27TH(these dates the time will be 9:30-12:30pm)

Late date will be the 26-4:00-7:00 pm

3 Saturdays (14TH, 21ST, 28TH ) the time will be 9:00-12:00 pm

 

NO REASON REQUIRED FOR EARLY VOTING BY

PERSONAL APPEARANCE

 

EMERGENCY VOTING: July 28, 2012 – First day emergency voting due to death of a relative of a voter which would result in the voter’s absence from the state or the county on election day, or due to a voter receiving a subpoena or service of process which requires a voter’s presence on election day. August 1, 2012 is the last day for emergency voting.

OFFICIAL OFFICE HOURS OUTSIDE OF EARLY VOTING: The Cannon County Election Commission Office is open M,T,W,Tr,F from 8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. in the Adams Office Building Room #244, telephone (615) 563-5650.

MISCELLANEOUS: We request that voters bring a Federal or State issued PHOTO ID with them to vote early. If you are a registered voter and have misplaced your VOTER CARD please call the office to receive a replacement. Voters who have changed their address or name may do so while early voting. Persons registered by-mail must vote in person at the polls or during early voting for the first time after they register.

THE CAMPAIGN FREE ZONE WILL BE ENFORCED AT THE EARLY VOTING AND ELECTION DAY POLLING LOCATIONS. The campaign free zone ends generally 100ft. from the entrance of the building in which the election is being held. Under Burson V. Freeman, the election commission may prohibit campaign signs and the electioneering on public sidewalks and streets if those areas fall within 100ft. boundary line. No campaign posters, signs or other campaign materials may be displayed. (Hats/shirts) No person may distribute materials, or solicit votes for or against any person or political party or position on a question. No person may solicit or collect for any cause.

What activity is permitted in the campaign free zone? An individual may bring a sample ballot or other campaign literature inside the boundary as long as the voter does not display the campaign literature to other voters. If the parking place of the polling place lies within the boundary, then a vehicle having campaign literature displayed on it may be parked within the boundary, only for as long as necessary for the occupant of the vehicle to vote.

VOTING BY MAIL:

If you are unable to appear at your polling place on Election Day or during Early Voting, you may request a By-Mail Ballot for the following reasons:

1. If you will be out of the county during all voting periods.

2. If you are a student (or the spouse of a student) enrolled in a college or

University located in Tennessee;

3. If you are hospitalized, sick or physically disabled;

4. If you are a candidate for office in the election or an election official;

5. If you are the caretaker of a hospitalized, ill or disabled person;

6. If you are serving on a state or federal jury;

7. If you are observing a religious holiday;

8. If you are over 60 years of age or older;

9. On the Permanent Absentee Voting Register. If you are hospitalized, ill or disabled

and are not able to appear during Early Voting or at your polling place on Election

Day, you may file a Doctor’s Statement of your condition (forms available from our office). Once this form is on file, you will automatically be mailed a ballot for all future elections.

10. If you are a Commercial Driver working out of the county. You can have your ballot mailed to your home. You must provide your Commercial Driver License number on the request for ballot.

DATES FOR VOTING BY-MAIL

July 26, 2012 – Last day a written request for an absentee ballot application may be received in the election commission office.

July 26, 2012 – Last day an application for absentee ballot from a voter or a temporary registration and application from armed forces, their spouses and overseas voters may be received in the County Election Commission Office.

FOLLOWING INFORMATION, A BALLOT WILL

BE MAILED TO YOU

1. NAME;

2. SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER;

3. RESIDENCE ADDRESS;

4. YOUR REASON FOR VOTING BY MAIL;

5. WHICH ELECTION YOU WISH TO VOTE (INCLUDING ANY PARTY PREFERENCE).

6. WHERE TO MAIL THE BALLOT OUT OF COUNTY (IF NEEDED OR

REQUIRED BY YOUR REASON FOR VOTING BY MAIL).

7. AND YOUR SIGNATURE.

(NOTE: Commercial Drivers must provide their Commercial Drivers License Number)

IF YOUR REQUEST IS INCOMPLETE, AN OFFICIAL APPLICATION MUST BE MAILED AND RETURNED TO OUR OFFICE BEFORE A BALLOT CAN BE PROCESSED.
