DUI offender wants, gets swift justice

A Woodbury woman wanted swift justice and that is what she received in Cannon County General Sessions Court on Nov. 14.

Janene M. Wampner had been charged with DUI and simple possession of marijuana on Nov. 12 by Woodbury Patrolman Tommy Miller following a traffic stop on West Main St.

Two days later Wampner told the court she was guilty and wanted to get the matter resolved. DUI cases can sometimes take several months to resolve while awaiting the results of blood tests.

Wampner pleaded guilty to DUI first offense. She was given a partially suspended sentence of 11 months, 29 days, placed on probation for 11 months, 27 days, and ordered to serve 48 hours in jail. She was also fined $350, assessed court costs, ordered to attend DUI school and her license was suspended for one year. The marijuana possession charge was dismissed.

In other cases heard by Judge Susan Melton on Nov. 14:

• Darlene Wilson Vance pleaded guilty to DUI first offense. She was given a partially suspended sentence of 11 months, 29 days, an equal amount of time on probation, and ordered to serve 4 days in jail. Vance was also fined $350, assessed the court costs, ordered to attend DUI school and her license was suspended for one year. Vance is facing another charge of DUI first offense from a separate incident. That case were reset until Jan. 30.

• Joshua C. Gilley pleaded guilty to two counts of simple possession of marijuana. In each case he was given a suspended sentence of 11 months, 29 days and an equal amount of time on probation. He was also fined $500, ordered to pay the court costs, and told to forfeit any property seized in both cases. Gilley also pleaded guilty to one count of domestic assault. He was given a suspended sentence of 11 months, 29 days, equal amount of time on probation, ordered to stay away from the victim and to pay the court costs. Gilley can also never own or possess a firearm as he result of the domestic violence conviction. The three sentences will run consecutively.

• Ireland Landis Guffee admitted to guilt on a charge of simple possession of marijuana and entered into an agreed order of retirement for 11 months, 29 days. She was also ordered to pay the court costs.

• Erica Beth Martin pleaded guilty to theft under $1,000. She was given a suspended sentence of 11 months, 29 days and an equal amount of time on probation. She was also ordered to pay the court costs, restitution in the amount of $250 and to stay away from the victim and the premises where the offense occurred.

• Kenneth Gammon agreed to revocation for violation of probation. He was ordered to serve 60 days in the Cannon County Jail and upon release he will be back on probation for 9 months, 23 days.

• Brandy N. Turnbo agreed to revocation for violation of probation. She was ordered to serve her original sentence of 11 months, 29 days.

• Micah L. Crowley entered a best interest plea to disorderly conduct. He was found guilty and was ordered to pay the court costs. Sentencing was set for Jan. 30.

• David Logan Garrett pleaded guilty to possession of unlawful drug paraphernalia and was granted judicial diversion. He was placed on probation for 11 months, 29 says, fined $150 and ordered to pay court costs. He must also forfeit any property seized during the course of the investigation.

• Chazz Allen Simpson pleaded guilty to simple possession of marijuana. He was given a suspended sentence of 11 months, 29 days and an equal amount of time on probation. He was also fined $250, ordered to pay court costs and must forfeit any property seized during the arrest.

• Lindsey A. Sullivan entered into an agreed order of retirement on a charge of domestic assault for 11 months, 29 days. She was was ordered to pay the county's litigation tax.

• Shane Dakota Dever admitted to guilt and entered into an agree order of retirement on a charge of criminal trespass. He was ordered to pay the court costs.

• Lisa Misty Winslow agreed to revocation for violation of probation. She was ordered to serve her original sentence of 11 months, 29 days.

• Michael Steven Foley pleaded guilty to allowing the use of a vehicle contrary to law. He was given a 30-day suspended sentence and an equal amount of time on probation. He was also fined $25 and ordered to pay the court costs.

• Samuel Mark Jones had a charge of cruelty to animals continued for 6 months, subject to good and lawful conduct. He was also ordered to pay the county's litigation tax.

• Blake Paige was granted relief on his court and probation fees.

• Kristen Arlis Gilley had an assault charge dropped by the state at the request of the victim.

• Monica Virginia Locklear had two charges of harassment dropped by the state after she provided evidence she did not make the calls or send the text messages as alleged.
