Drugs, burglaries Cannon's top crimes

Drug offenses and burglaries were among the top crimes investigated during 2014 by the Cannon County Sheriff's Department.
Sheriff Darrell Young's office investigated 30 drug cases during 2014, solving 29 of them. Deputies and investigators charged 31 adults and two juveniles in connection with those cases.
The annual year-end report revealed that 100 percent of the drug/narcotic equipment violations were solved by the department for a total of 21 out of 21 cases with 10 arrests.
A total of 35 burglaries were reported with one case cleared resulting in two arrests. Seven weapon law violations were reported with all seven cleared with four suspects arrested.
Under the category of domestic violence, eight cases of aggravated assault were investigated with eight arrests made. Simple assault cases totaled 19 with all of them resolved. Three reports of intimation were reported with two arrests made.
TIBRS collects 22 crime categories made up of 47 specific crimes called Group A offenses. Additionally, arrests are reported for 11 Group B offense categories. In TIBRS up to 10 offenses can be reported in an incident, providing a more accurate picture of crime.
Under TIBRS Group B, 297 arrests were made by the Sheriff's Department including 19 bad check, 29 DUI, eight public drunkenness, five family (non-violent) and six liquor law cases.
In addition to drug violations and burglaries, TIBRS, Group A violations included one case of counterfeiting/forgery and 27 cases of destruction/vandalism with four cases cleared and one arrest made. Miscellaneous fraud cases were reported at 11 offenses and eight thefts from motor vehicles were indexed along with 17 other larcenies.
Total arrests for 2014 totaled 389 with 382 of those adults and seven juveniles.
