Dr. Carroll Van West

Dr. Carroll Van West, the recently appointed Tennessee State Historian, will be the speaker at the Tuesday, Sept. 10 meeting of the Cannon County Historical Society at 6:30 p.m. at the Cannon County Senior Citizens Center.

 The Senior Citizens Center is located at 609 Lehman St. You will enter under the awning.

 Dr. West is director of the Center for Historical Preservation at MTSU and of the Tennessee Civil War National Heritage Area. He has taught in the MTSU History Department since 1985.

 He will speak about Civil War activities in Middle Tennessee and the surrounding area.

 Dr. West is the son of WC West and the late Sara VanHooser West and the grandson of  the late Mr. and Mrs. Cling West and Mr. and Mrs. John VanHooser.

 We will meet at 6:30 p.m. for snacks and refreshments. Please bring your favorites and enjoy the fellowship.

 The presentation will begin at 7 p.m.

 Dr. West has many relatives in Cannon County who are most welcome and encouraged to attend.

 “The War Between the States is a favorite subject of many. This is an opportunity to hear a recognized authority on this popular subject that is part of our heritage,” said Joe Davenport, president of the Cannon County Historical Society.
