Dobson Pleads ‘No Contest’ To Vehicular Homicide
Tuesday, July 10, 2012 4:56 pm An Auburntown man entered a “no contest” plea to the charge of Vehicular Homicide Tuesday in Cannon County Circuit Court. Judge Don Ash accepted the plea and after finding Travis Lee Dobson guilty scheduled a sentencing hearing for Oct. 5. Vehicular Homicide is a Class B Felony. Dobson could be sentenced to serve from 8 to 30 years in prison under Tennessee law. The case had been scheduled to go to trial later this month before the plea agreement was reached. Dobson allegedly failed to properly negotiate a curve, overcorrected and then hit Ward’s vehicle head-on. Court records indicate the offense was related to the use of methamphetamine. A witness to Tuesday's hearing said family members sought an admission from Dobson that he was responsible for causing Ward's death, but Dobson did not do so. Tennessee Highway Patrolman Darren Butler and Woodbury Police Officer John House were the investigating officers.
