District tennis tournament starts April 30

The Cannon County High tennis teams will now be preparing for District Tournaments as they closed out the regular season last week.

The Lionettes finished with a 9-4 record overall and undefeated in District play with a 4-0 mark.

On Tuesday, April 17, the team shut out their rivals in DeKalb County with a score of 8-0 in the set of matches. The Lionettes swept the singles matches. Ashlyn Nokes and Juliana Schau recorded shutouts. Cannon County also won all three doubles matches.

The Lionettes split their doubles matches on Thursday against Van Buren County but won five of their six singles matches. Lauren Underwood got a shutout in her match 8-0. Dani Waisanen, Ashlyn Nokes, Taylor Meeks and Juliana Schau all notched wins for the Lionettes.

The Cannon County Lions tennis team finished out the regular season with a record of 4-5 overall, 2-2 in District play. On Tuesday the team lost to DeKalb 5-2 with seniors Lane Willis and Marcus Gannon recording victories in their matches. Gannon won by forfeit while Willis outscored his opponent 8-6.

On Thursday against Van Buren County the Lions wrote up six wins in the set of matches. Brandon Miles, Brady Cunningham, Willis and Gannon all got wins. Cannon won both doubles matches as well.

District tournament will start April 30 at Tennessee Tech in Cookeville.
