Deputy Catches Kids Acting Naughty



Two local youths may not be receiving a visit from Santa Claus this year.

Cannon County Sheriff's Deputy Matthew Parsley was dispatched to 2291 Pea Ridge Road on Dec. 20 at 12:20 a.m. in reference to a disturbance. Upon investigation it was discovered that Travis Joe Davenport of 445 Eagle Creek Rd., Liberty, was in possession of an open alcohol container.

Davenport had consumed some of the alcoholic beverage. Also in the company of Davenport was a 16-year-old female.

Davenport was written citations for contributing to the delinquency of a minor, open container and violation of the drinking age law. Initial court date is Feb. 1.

The juvenile female was written a citation for curfew violation for being out past midnight on a weekend night.

• Scott Wayne Bowman, 184 Smith Rd., Bradyville, was charged with leaving the scene of a property damage accident on Dec. 18  by Woodbury Police Sgt. John House.

Bowman was allegedly the driver of a 2000 Ford Expedition involved in an accident in the parking lot of West End Tobacco on Highway 70S, causing damage to a vehicle attended by Elisabeth Harris.

Bowman left the scene without first fulfilling the requires of give his name, address and the registration number of the vehicle he was driving.

CCSD Deputy Eric Moss served an arrest warrant on Bowman on Dec. 19. Bond was set at $3,000. Initial court date is Jan. 18.

• CCSD Deputy Tommy Barker was dispatched to 799 Jimtown Road on Dec. 21 in reference to a structure fire. Upon arrival he spoke Jeremy and Gennie Morgan.

Jeremy Morgan stated that he and his wife were traveling up the hill on Jimtown Road when they noticed the fire inside of the residence through its kitchen window. Morgan stated that his wife called 911 and went inside of the residence to try to put the fire out.

Morgan stated that he threw several sofa cushions which were on fire out of the residence and then he checked it to make sure no one was inside.

Deputy Barker contact Detective James Davis and informed him that the residence was unoccupied and that the fire was contained to a wall where no electrical outlets were located.

Det. Davis arrived on scene, took photographs of the damage, and contacted the owner of the rental property, John Smith, who arrived shortly thereafter.
