Deputies Investigate Thefts Involving Jewelry, Vehicles

Deputies with the Cannon County Sheriff's Department were called to investigate a number of reported thefts recently.

• Deputy Brandon Gullett was dispatched to 3200 Porterfield Road on January 27 in reference to a stolen four-wheeler. He was met by Danny D. Bowling, who stated that his four-wheeler had been stolen from his outbuilding. Bowling described the vehicle as a green Artic Cat 500 HO. It is valued at $5,000. Bowling stated someone had cut the lock off the outbuilding and taken the four-wheeler. Deputy Gullett observed fresh tracks in the wet yard which indicated that someone had driven up to the building. The incident remains under investigation.

• Deputy Brandon Mims recovered a green Ford Ranger on Feb. 3. The vehicle had been reported stolen on Jan. 31 by Milton Greer. Deputy Mims found the truck sitting in the gravel parking lot of Alvin M's Market during routine patrol. The deputy learned from Cannon County Dispatch that the vehicle was reported as stolen in DeKalb County. The truck was towed to the Cannon County Sheriff's Department and released to Greer on Feb. 3.

• Deputy Randy Neal investigated the reported theft of a 1997 Chevy Malibu at Alvin M's Market on Feb. 3. Owner Kelly Everett of McMinnville stated she had left her car at the market on Feb. 2 at around 4 a.m. and when she returned at 7 a.m. that same date it was gone. Everett said she had left her car at the store before and nothing had happened to it. She said she did not have insurance on the car. Everett also said her keys were in the arm rest and that she always left them there and no one has ever bothered the vehicle.

• Deputy Randy Neal was dispatched to 1272 Vanhooser Rd. on Jan. 29 for a reported theft. He spoke with Robbie Richardson, who said someone had stolen her jewelry. Richardson said she did not know when the jewelry was taken but believed it was seven to eight months ago. Richardson said she did not wear the jewelry often and that is why she had not noticed it was gone. She identified the missing jewelry as diamond earrings and necklaces, with a total value of approximately $3,600.

• Deputy Mattew Parsley responded to the Ivy Bluff Methodist Church on Feb. 4 to meet with a complainant about a possible theft. Upon arrive he spoke with Billy Land, who owns an abandoned trailer at 577 Houston Parker Rd. Land said he received a call from an individual who informed him three subjects were inside the trailer. Land said when he arrived at his trailer he saw three people leaving in a blue truck. Land said he is missing light poles, electrical wiring, and the front door had been kicked in. Land said he observed the truck go to a barn to possible unload the items. Deputy Parsley went to a residence on Orville Duke Rd. and spoke with Don and Magnolia Stephens. Both stated they were looking for scrap metal in abandoned places. Deputy Parsley searched the area but found none of the items reportedly taken. He advised both of the Stephens to stay off property that does not belong to them. Deputy Parsley also searched the barn and found no evidence of stolen items. Deputy Parsley also advised Land he could prosecute for trespassing, but he declined to do so.

• Deputy Randy Neal spoke with a victim of property damage on Jan. 30 at the sheriff's department. Darlene Jo Bush of Woodbury stated she was traveling north on Jim Cummings Hwy. and saw some rocks and dirt on the road. Bush said she was watching the debris in the road trying not to hit it. Bush said something hit the hood of her truck, denting it. Bush said it appeared to her that someone was throwing stuff off the bluff.
