Democratic Party Hides Truth About ObamaCare

LETTER TO THE EDITOR

I write in response to the ad that was paid for by the Democratic Party of Cannon County in last (this) week‘s Courier promoting the benefits of the Health Care Law passed by President Obama and the Democrats despite the overwhelming protest of the majority of American people.

I want to begin by saying I have many Democratic friends and family members. I respect their right to believe what they choose just as I hope they respect mine. We can just politely say that we will have to agree that we disagree on many fundamental aspects of politics when it comes to economics and morals. However, I can no longer sit back and allow statements to be made that are inaccurate and misleading on a health care bill that will affect all of our lives in ways that are still unknown.

One of my major problems with the bill is I believe it to be un-Constitutional. It totally disregards the 10th Amendment which clearly states that; “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people”. I do not believe the framers of the Constitution intended the Federal Government of the United States to yield the power it has deemed it currently has. And that is why the provision was placed into our “Bill of Rights”.

If mandating health care in a way that forces you and me to purchase it resides with the Federal Government, then what is left to stop them from mandating we all stop eating red meat because it is un-healthy? What is left to stop them from mandating we all drink water instead of drinks that are high in caffeine or fructose syrup? My question is, where does it end? When does enough become enough? I believe the Health Care Law to be the foot in the door that could lead to further mandates into all of our lives.

For the record, I believe that health care needed reform. I believe it should be made cheaper, accessible and transparent to all Americans. However, I don’t believe it to be a right or an entitlement like many people do.  I think it should be made available to the people who truly need it and to the people who make positive contributions to our society by working and paying taxes. I don’t think it should be a “right” or “entitlement” to people who choose not to work but are capable of working. That is one of the primary problems we face as a nation today. Living off the government is easier than working for a living. So why wouldn’t people choose that path when we make it so easy for them to do? And as was told to me by a man last week, “you can’t give a person into prosperity”.

Congress should have studied, debated and revised several different bills before passing health care reform. Instead, the American people were given a bill that was over 2400 pages long and makes health care worse.  The outcome is we have a Health Care Bill no one truly understands and that was forced upon us despite the majority being against it. Do you realize the Constitution of the United States has 4,608 words that are written on four pages of parchment and that is the foundation you and I have lived under for over 200 years? What does that say about the Congress we have running our country now?

I end by giving you these facts about the Health Care Law that was conveniently left out in the ad the Democratic Party of Cannon County  ran last week:

1. As written, the law covers elective abortions despite Obama’s promise it would not.

2. The law will increase insurance premiums due to the law stipulating coverage for children up to the age of 26. Estimates are as high as 9%.

3. According to Medicare’s actuary, the Health Care Law will increase costs and not decrease costs as implied by the Obama administration.

4. Obamacare will force seasonal employers (a.k.a. temporary agency’s) to   pay huge fines, cut hours or lay off employees.

5. Obamacare allows the IRS to confiscate part or all of your tax refund if you do not purchase a “qualified” insurance plan.

6. Obamacare won't allow employees or most small businesses to keep the coverage they have and like. By Obama's own official estimates, as many as 69 percent of employees, 80 percent of small businesses, and 64 percent of large businesses will be forced to change coverage, probably to more expensive plans.

These are just a few of the things that the Democratic Party does not want you to know or understand about the Health Care Law.

My suggestion to all of you is to educate yourself and learn how the bill is going to affect you. Don’t take my words or the Democratic Party’s ad as gospel. And then I suggest you vote for the people who will best represent what is factual and not just unfounded information.

Respectfully,
