The search committee tasked with selecting a director of schools for Cannon County voted Tuesday night to offer the position to William (Freddy) Curtis.

Curtis currently serves as interim director, having been named to that role by the board of education on Nov. 30.

The search committee, consisting of board members, central office staff, principals and teachers, gave 13 votes to Curtis on the question of who to offer the position.

West Side principal Karen King received two votes and Jason Scarbrough, a principal at Inman Middle School in Paris, Tenn., received one vote.

The committee also voted to offer Curtis, who prior to being hired as interim director was a teacher at Cannon County High School and before that a principal at West Side, a three-year contract at $88,800 per year.

The board will meet in special session on Thursday at Woodbury Grammar School to vote on hiring Curtis and offering him a contract. The meeting will begin at 6:30.
