County commissioner resigns

One of Cannon County's 10 county commissioners submitted a letter of resignation last week.

Todd Hollandsworth turned in the notice to County Court Clerk Bobby Smith.

Hollandsworth, of Auburntown, represents District 2 on the commission.

Hollandsworth's letter of resignation, submitted on Friday, Oct. 27, reads as follows:

"After careful thought, deliberation, and prayer, I Todd Hollandsworth resign as Cannon County District 2 Commissioner effective immediately.

"Due to job changes, availability and family considerations I can no longer hold this position. I will always be honored that the good citizens of Cannon County District 2 saw fit to elect me as their Representative. I have considered it a great opportunity to represent the people for the last 11 years.

"Thank you all so much for the support you have given me."

Cannon County Executive Mike Gannon said on Saturday it was too late to fill Hollandsworth's seat on the commission at this Thursday's meeting, because notice will need to be posted of the vacancy and of the call for nominations.

Gannon said filling the vacancy will be on the agenda of the commission's December meeting, as will the vacancy on the Cannon County Road Commission created by the recent passing of James Hancock.
