Constable Jim Gibbs completed another course in Forensic Computer Data Recovery and Acquisition offered by the National While Collar Crime Center.
The recently completed Intermediate Data Recovery and Analysis which 36 hours of intense instruction and hands on exercises recovering data from computers that are using the Microsoft Window operating system. All the courses are certified for Tennessee Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T) continuing education certification and taught at the Tennessee Highway Patrol Academy in Nashville.
Gibbs previous completed a 24 hour computer forensic course offered by MTSU and taught by a Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) forensic specialist and the 28 hours basic course of instruction taught be National While Collar Crime Center which was a prerequisite to course he completed this week.
Next week he will attend 2 days of Cell Phone Forensics and one day recovering information from popular Global Position Systems (GPS)
Gibbs also completed a course in Forensic Photography at MTSU which instructed by Capt Lee of the Knox County Sheriff’s Department.. There has been no cost to the tax payers of Cannon County as all of the courses have been free to law enforcement officers paid for through grant monies. The only expenses Constable Gibbs has had were the time involved and the cost of transportation.
In addition to the specialized education, the camaraderie between law enforcement officers was superb and the networking with computer crime fighters from across Tennessee and the United States was a rare opportunity.
