Conduct Gets Disorderly During Holidays

Christmas Day turned out to be an unhappy holiday at two Cannon County homes.

• Glenn Richard Smotherman, 3907 Dickens Hill Rd., Bradyville, was charged with Disorderly Conduct on Dec. 25 by Cannon County Sheriff’s Deputy Brandon Gullett.

The deputy was dispatched to the address following a report of a man who was allegedly intoxicated and causing a disturbance.

Upon arrival Deputy Gullett was met by a family member who stated that Smotherman was drunk and had been fighting with her all day.

Deputy Gullett along with Deputy Mike Smith entered the residence and found Smotherman sitting on a couch.

Smotherman was verbally and physically combative with the deputies and removed a clear plastic liquor bottle from his pocket during the incident and took a drink. He threatened the officers with physical harm as they prepared to transport him to jail.

Bond was set at $1,000. Initial court date is Feb. 7.

• Mary Jane Abel, 314 Kenslo Ave., Murfreesboro, was charged with Disorderly Conduct, Resisting Arrest and Resisting Arrest on Dec. 25.

Abel was at a residence on Reed Court in Woodbury and, after being asked to leave by her daughter, went outside and allegedly began beating on windows and calling a man inside the residence racial slurs.

She appeared to be under the influence and smelled of an intoxicating substance. She refused to put her hands behind her back and kept pulling away from the arresting officer.

Bond was set at $2,500. Initial court date is Feb. 14.
