The Cannon County Government is getting a new website. Greg Johnson who is listed as the Vice Treasurer and webmaster of the Cannon County GOP is leading the way for the site and made a presentation at the Cannon County Commission meeting Thursday night.

Prior to Brent Bush taking over as County Executive, the County had been paying $100 a month for space on the Cannon County Chamber of Commerce website to list county government officials and information. Johnson cited that with the county being in the poor financial situation, they decided they needed to use the $1200 a year on something else and as a result ceased their partnership with the Chamber.

According to Johnson, that created a problem that he and commissioner Kim Davenport were able to find a solution to. They have worked together to create a website that will be funded out of their own pockets and not ask for any county money. However, they may in the future ask for monetary donations to help fund the site. The new website will be cannoncountytn.org.

Johnson scrolled through the up and coming site. The site will be opened source meaning that people will be able to send in information to be placed on the site. The webmaster will then approve the postings before they are added. After the presentation, Jeannine Floyd made the motion to approve. The motion carried with Corey Davenport, Karen Ashford and Randy Gannon voting against it while commissioner Greg Mitchell passed on voting.
